Fortaleza (state of Ceará) Brazil, 1985: stylist Liana Thomaz creates Água de Coco with only a sewing machine, a seamstress, a lot of determination and a well defined objective: launching a beachwear brand of unquestionable quality. Dream achieved. Today, the respected swimwear label´s place on the worldwide fashion scene is ensured.
The label, which parades at the São Paulo Fashion Week, - Latin America’s largest fashion event is always showing remarkable novelties to a public which is eager for authentic fashion and enjoys resting or having fun at the most beautiful coastal landscapes. Liana Thomaz, Água de Coco’s director, declares: “Our work was always based on the satisfaction of our target public: demanding women whose priorities are quality and comfort. And the result of all this effort shows in the success and acknowledgement conquered inside the national and international markets. Recently, stylist Liana Thomaz associated with ABEST - Associação Brasileira de Estilistas (the Brazilian stylists Association) -, whose purpose is to strengthen and promote the Brazilian design fashion industry. Since they shared the same concept, Água de Coco by Liana Thomaz decided to integrate ABEST, adding to the decision another objective: further solidifying the label’s importance and recognizance inside the segment.
In 2006, the label formed a partnership with the largest lingerie and beach fashion chain in the whole world: Victoria’s Secret. Launched by the company, the Swim 2006 Catalog brings the Brazilian top model Adriana Lima wearing a golden Água de Coco by Liana Thomaz bathing suit, an article which stands very well for the label’s glamour and refinement.
This negotiation shows the respect and recognizance conquered by the label on the worldwide fashion scene over its twenty years of life. Água de Coco by Liana Thomaz’s constant presence in the international printed press also shows this conquest. In recent times the brand appeared in fashion editions of large American publications such as Shape, Elle, Marie Claire, Selecta Magazine, Glamour, Sports Illustrated, Teen Vogue, Wave magazines and Harper´s Bazzar in Spanish.
Água de Coco by Liana Thomaz brings a wide range of bikini bathing suits, regular bathing suits, smocks, swimwraps, bags and accessories for the female public and bathing suits, bermudas and shorts for the male public. In order to complement the already sophisticated look, the brand makes available sandals and flip-flops created within the designer Liana Thomaz’s luxury concept. Everything to show lavishly and make evident both the female and male beauty. The company´s industrial park occupies today a 7,5 thousand square meters in the city of Fortaleza, state of Ceará, Brazil. Employing more than 600 people distributed among the factory and several shops, the brand produces monthly 40 thousand articles in swimwear and fitness models, and accessories as well. Liana Thomaz's ÁGUA DE COCO beachwear brand draws inspiration from sea life for her Summer 2015 collection. The deep sea is the starting point for her collection's textures, forms, and colors.
Scales, shagreen, mother-of-pearl, and shells are exquisitely represented in textures, a highlight this season that adds luxury to the natural form of garments.
Rays, great shoals, seaweed, corals, and shells suggest a wide-ranging color palette that includes yellow, orange, red, and earthy shades, as well as blue, from light to dark. Shades of green, coral, and gold complete the mix and create patterns that perfectly reproduce underwater life. They are as follows:
Variations overlap shagreen textures in earthy shades. Garments contain embroideries and prevalent materials are neoprene and see-through silk.
Goldfish with Scales
Fish has a reddish golden tone. The pleated silk and foil give garments a shiny look to simulate fins.
Assorted and colorful versions are highlights. In addition, three maxi shells were taken apart and the garments were given an ethnic look. Each shell has its own color: caramel, black and burgundy, and black and white. To come as close to the original as possible, neoprene and see-through silk were used to give texture to swimsuits, bikinis, and bodysuits.
Diving is the inspiration for this block, whose highlights are turquoise and coral, with a see-through tulle embroidery representing gravel in shades of coral.
The beauty of seaweed is represented by asymmetrical textures using Lycra® and neoprene. Green and turquoise are the highlights in this "garden".
Small pearls in shades of blue and green and the changeant fabric become one with the ruffles, giving garments a light touch.
This block is composed of yellow fish of all sizes and uses Lycra® and foil to give the collection a lively and shiny look.
Betta fish and rope are mixed in this block, where off-white, blue, and green prevail. The patter has a ropey texture in the pleated silk.
Raw materials include spandex with a scale-based finish, see-through silk, and textured neoprene, which gives garments an air of water sports. Embroideries, handcrafts, and foil applications give the collection an urban touch and make it ideal to come up with looks that go beyond the beach.
In this edition, shapes emerge from the riches of underwater life in a minimalistic version.
VICENZA sandals were exclusively made for ÁGUA DE COCO by Liana Thomaz, with black and off-white ropes, which reproduce boating knots.
